1 Cor. 6:9-20: You Are Not Your Own

1 Cor. 6:9-20: You Are Not Your Own

By: Todd Hudnall

I apologize for the appearance of our blog the last couple of weeks. We've had some issues that came, we've not yet rectified.

This weekend is another Encounter Weekend. We've been praying about this for months. It is going to be powerful. Please join with me to pray that the Lord will do a wonderful work in people's lives.

Living in a fallen, permissive world, that believes "it is our body, you can do whatever you want with it" - today's passage is critical for every believer to understand.

1Cor. 6:9 Do you not know that the
unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither
fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,

1Cor. 6:10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor
drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

1Cor. 6:11 And such were some of you. But
you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of
the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.

The finished work
of Jesus can cleanse the worst and deepest of sin. Recognized when you repent
of your sin you have become washed and set apart for God. Is. 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the
LORD, “Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool.”

1Cor. 6:12 All things are lawful for me,
but all things are not helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be
brought under the power of any.

An addiction
brings you under its control.

1Cor. 6:13 Foods for the stomach and the
stomach for foods, but God will destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the
Lord, and the Lord for the body.

Though the body
in its current state is temporary, it is still sacred and should not be
defiled.

1Cor. 6:14 And God both raised up the Lord
and will also raise us up by His power.

Someday, our
bodies will be raised up by the Lord. We’ll be given a glorified body.

1Cor. 6:15 Do you not know that your
bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

1Cor. 6:16 Or do you not know that he who
is joined to a harlot is one body with
her?
For “the two,” He says, “shall
become one flesh.”

1Cor. 6:17 But he who is joined to the
Lord is one spirit with Him.

Our body is no
longer our own. Despite any urges we have we must treat our body as holy and
not step over God’s boundaries by sinning in our bodies. That is part of being
a follower of Jesus Christ.

1Cor. 6:18 Flee sexual immorality. Every
sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality
sins against his own body.

It is our responsibility
to flee all sexual immorality.

1Cor. 6:19 Or do you not know that your
body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who
is
in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

1Cor. 6:20 For you were bought at a price;
therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Our body is not
our own, to do with it as we will. Our body is the Lord’s and we will be held accountable
for how we steward it.
