Turning Worries to Prayers: Philippians 4:7-9, 19

By: Todd Hudnall

Phil. 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

Instead of worrying about situations we need to pray about them. This past weekend we talked about turning every worry into a prayer request. If it isn’t worth praying about, it’s not worth worrying about – and if we have prayed about it, we can trust God and not worry. We’re also to do it with thanksgiving. Thanking God for what He has done in the past and what He will do in this situation. It’s the principle of turning our back on our worry and instead worshiping and praising the Answer to our situation - God.

Phil. 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

If we have prayed and put it in His hands we are promised His peace. He is in control and well able to handle our situation. Then when the thoughts of worry come back (which they will), we have to choose what we are going to think about.

Phil. 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Instead of setting our mind on our worries, we set it on these things.

Phil. 4:9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
Phil. 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Instead of worrying how our needs will be met, we trust our Heavenly Father who will meet our every need.
